It’s now 18 months since Mark Carney gave a memorable speech on “Breaking the tragedy of the horizon” at Lloyd’s of London. In it, the governor of the Bank of England talked about the urgent need to address climate change.
As our world becomes ever more volatile and complex, are we any further forward in dealing with a long-term global risk we can all choose to affect – that of consumption and our impact on the planet?
In 1987, former Prime Minister of Norway Gro Brundtland published an influential report called “Our Common Future”. It outlined the first widely-acknowledged concept of sustainable development, or “development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs”.
